Ah yes. Another parental right of passage, I suppose.
Caroline has been sleeping horribly, napping horribly, and waking in the night the past four days. Upon further research, the waking episodes aren’t night terrors but what Dr. Greene called confusional arousals. His description fits our experiences to a tee.
So Caroline is beyond tired from all the interrupted sleep. David and I are very tired. I’m actually going to work today (Sunday) which is something I almost never do. But because I’ve been too mentally exhausted to put two coherent words together the past few days, I’ve fallen behind on my work. Some jobs you can do when you’re mentally drained and exhausted. Writing/editing isn’t one of them.
Caroline was so out of it this morning after last night’s episode and the accumulated missed sleep this week that there was no way we were going to take her to church. We put her in the car and drove out to Grand Haven and Lake Michigan, hoping she would fall asleep for at least a cat nap. She didn’t. But this was her first time to the beach, the lake and the lighthouse out there and she loved it so it was a good trip anyway. We ate lunch at Panera and gave her her apple juice for lunch (usually a no-no) so she would stay awake on the drive home and hopefully go down for her regular nap. Right now she is sleeping and I hope and pray she sleeps for at least a couple of hours – for all our sakes.
I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.
Updated: She slept for three hours this afternoon and is much more like her normal self. Maybe we’ll get a wake-free night tonight!

Poor baby girl. And poor mom and dad, too. Hope she gets to sleeping better.
Thank you, Sallie, for posting that link.
My grandson had an ‘episode’ during nap time on a day I was caring for him in the spring. I certainly was terrified by it. After it was all over, he had no memory of it. I haven’t been able to forget it.
I hope you get a good night’s sleep tonight.
Judy – You are very welcome! I’m glad it was helpful.
Last night we had no episodes. However, Caroline didn’t fall asleep until almost 11 and was up and awake at 4:55.
I keep telling myself, it is only a phase and it will pass. But I have to admit that I’m tired of being tired.
