Caroline has come down with pink eye so we will be celebrating Thanksgiving alone this year. We had other plans, but since pink eye is highly contagious and no one wants it… we’ll have a cozy Thanksgiving at home. Hopefully David and I won’t get it, but if we do we already have the eye drops for it.
So I guess this means I need to get to Meijer and buy a turkey post haste! I have actually never prepared a Thanksgiving dinner myself. I’ve done parts of it or with others, but I’ve never done it all. I think this is a good way to try it. Only David and Caroline to know if something bombs.
But now I need to figure out what I can do as soon as possible so if I come down with it, we still have a fighting chance of having a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving.

Oh my! I am so sorry!
Do you know anyone who is nursing a baby? I ask because human breastmilk is my go-to remedy for pink eye. No, I am not kidding. Thankfully, I have a friend who is a baby making machine.
Anyhow, drops in the eye, a few times a day, and she’ll be healed up in no time. We find it makes it go away in a couple of days; no exaggeration.
I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, no matter what.
Eye drops! Hahahahahhahahahhahahhahhaha.
Let’s just say the doctor called in a script this morning for an antibiotic because eye drops were not happening in this house.
But maybe someone else will be able to use your helpful advice. (Seriously.) Although I also don’t know anyone breastfeeding so that wouldn’t work anyway.
On a positive note, at least I know now that she’s sick and not Monday or Tuesday when there wouldn’t be enough time to thaw a turkey and prepare.
Sallie,
My in laws cook the turkey a day or two in advance. They carve it and even make the gravy. We reheat it on Thanksgiving day and the rest of us bring the side dishes made that day. It works out fine since the meal all winds up being sort of mixed up on the plate anyways. So I think you can cook it on Monday or Tuesday and be just fine the day of. In fact, you could do the cranberry sauce and the potatoes, oh and the stuffing ahead too. At that point just heat up some rolls and pray over the meal on Thursday!
So sorry you have pink eye over there. We have had a 3 week visit infection “visitor” as well. LOTS of yogurt over…and my goal today is to be the first Saturday in 3 weeks we don’t have to head over to the Dr. office. Maybe we can just stay home!
