Random numbers from our life right now…
360 – I haven’t decided if ESPN360 is the greatest thing since sliced bread or a temptation from the pit of you know where. This year ESPN.com is streaming a lot of college basketball games – every day. While I’m not tempted to sit and watch entire games, I love watching the end of close games. Too. much. basketball. temptation. But I sure do enjoy it! And I told David that I’ll be much more ready to fill in my brackets for the Big Dance in March after watching so many games in other conferences.
100 – I finally made it to 100 articles on Suite101. My most recent two are about favorite books of mine: All-of-a-Kind Family Classic Children’s Books and Picture Books that Teach Children about Courage.
1 – We looked at one house this weekend. Praying hard for direction.
8 – Number of days we have been in the official midst of potty training. Yes, we are on the later end of this development, but by waiting and not pressuring Caroline to do it sooner than she was ready, it has been very good overall. Tons of cooperation and good progress. There is no rushing (or bribing) this child. She does everything on her own timetable and it is futile to try to alter it.
20 – Approximate number of years since I passionately prayed and asked God to make me a patient person. I mentioned it once on my old blog:
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned in my blog that about fifteen years ago I prayed (very passionately) that God would help me to become a patient person. Just a few days later I heard Chuck Swindoll say in a sermon on the radio that one thing he would never pray for is to learn patience because… well, think of what you are asking for! My stomach sank, but it was too late. I’ve been learning patience ever since. Almost nothing comes quickly in my life. God took that prayer very seriously. So be careful what you pray for and think about the implications. Pray for patience… spend the rest of your life getting lots of opportunities in waiting…
I thought waiting to get married was hard. In retrospect, that was nothing. That was just the warm-up to having a spirited child who is also pokey and easily distracted. Thank the Lord that His mercies are new every morning because this. is. very. hard.
So if I’m hit and miss for a bit, it’s because I’m either watching a basketball game, working, or dealing with Pull-Up!
