And so ends another day

For a number of months Caroline has been doing this little skip along and say in a sing-song voice, “hap PY Day! ha PY Day!”  Of all the little Caroline things she’s done in her life, this is one of my favorites.

Never heard it today.

Today was just one. of. those. days.  I think it was the culmination of a lot of things.  The weather has just been oppressive for days.  Heat and humidity day after day.  When it wasn’t hot, it was raining or storming.  Caroline has hardly been able to play outside for days and it makes for a less than happy and restful girl.  We’ve had way too many appointments lately including first haircut and first trip to dentist.  David and I have been under a lot of pressure with a few projects.    There are a couple of other things going on that have been taking a lot of extra time.

I think Caroline just kind of hit a wall with it all this morning.

One thing I don’t know if I will ever get used to in parenting is graciously accepting days gone bad.  I find it especially frustrating when I wake up feeling pretty good and with a positive, can-do attitude and then it just gets totally derailed.  I’m usually pretty insightful about what Caroline needs, how to redirect things in a better direction, etc.  Usually it works.  Today, nothing worked.

Sigh.

Well, tomorrow is another day.  And it is Sunday which leads me to the next thing.

We seem to be successfully back at going to church.  Caroline has been very happily going to church for the past month.  The last two Mondays she’s asked if we can go back to that church “today”.  I won’t get into details since I don’t talk specifically about where we go to church, but we had some pretty important things happen that encouraged us so much.  It was so hard to wait it out and not push her to go over the winter when she was dealing with whatever was bothering her.  But thankfully God heard our prayers (and the prayers of others!) and she now is eager to go each Sunday.  Praise the Lord!

So praying that tomorrow will be a “hap PY Day! ha PY Day!”  :D

Photo from a few weeks ago.  Grandma S. got Caroline a dress with a matching dolly dress. :D

  1. My daughter is a “first born girl” perfectionist who… at one time… was also brilliant… scary smart. Not after five children.

She has told me often she believes God gives children to parents to teach them humility and to be happy when days go well (perfectionism went out the window the year her second child was born). Her first was easy going.

Some days are like that. I have more than I’d like to admit….

Here’s the silver lining: a day like today makes you really appreciate and savor the good ones! :) Here’s to tomorrow….

Such a sweet picture of Caroline. The weather is so beautiful this morning. I went out for a run and it was so cool and pleasant. Good bye humidity!
