No, I didn’t drop off the face of the earth! My husband and I went out of town for a couple of days and then I just decided to take a little break from posting yesterday. We’ve been making some big decisions the past few days and are relieved that they are made.
We went out of town to look at houses about ninety minutes north of here. We have been praying and talking about moving for a number of years and decided to look into it. However, we’ve decided to stay put for now. There were a lot of reasons that went into this decision, but we are happy with our choice.
So we are going to finish up some of the projects we’ve put off around here since we thought we might move – new carpet, replacing some windows, painting, outdoor electrical, etc. We’ve already sunk a lot of money into this house the past four years and we didn’t want to put any more in it if we weren’t going to get a good return on our investment. However, if we are going to stay here for at least a while, we want to do these things because we will enjoy them.
Going through this was a good exercise in two things we often discuss:
1. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
2. How much should we complicate our lives in an effort to simplify them?
Maybe I will try to write on those in the coming days. For now we’ve got the answers to those questions and we’re ready to settle down into normal living!

My husband and I just made a similar decision. There was a possibility to increase our ministry oportunities here in the short run, but we decided (with some wise counsel) to stay put and stick it out here for some time longer. I must say I am very happy not to have to move anytime soon. Much as a new place might be nicer, just having to pick up and haul everything around is NO FUN.
So far my only home project to improve our comfort staying here has been to start organizing our tiny kitchen. I finally have a few available square feet of counter top! What a blessing.
Hope you and your husband have fun on your projects and years of enjoyment from the fruit of your labors.:-)
I agree that the process of simplifying can bring a whole bunch of complication! I am glad you have arrived at a decision-happy house remodeling!
Sallie – I love the two points that you and your husband use as checks:
- just because you can doesn’t mean you should and,
- how much should we complicate our lives in an effort to simplify them?
These are words with so much wisdom. So often we clutter the big picture
with too many possibilities….
I found your site through my dear friend, Lanier Ivester’s website, laniersbooks.com. She was right….you are a treasure!
Thank you for sharing.
Blessings!
Cheri and Randi – Thank you for your words of encouragement!
Wendy – I’m so glad you found your way here and are enjoying it. Please come back often!
