Two different people (Christian and Martha) shared this article with me. (If you missed my dentist drama, you can read about it here and here and here.)
I don’t have red hair, but I do have natural red highlights in my otherwise blond hair. So I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that I carry the gene for this problem.
It also made me wonder about my c-section. The anesthesiologist had the hardest time getting me numb. He worked on my spinal forever before they started the surgery. I suppose we’ll never know for sure what went wrong, but I was feeling things before my OB even had Caroline out. They then gave me the medication that keeps you awake but unable to remember anything. It wasn’t enough. I was still moving around. They finally had to put me completely out. I can’t help but wonder if it is all related.
Thanks, ladies, for the link! Interesting reading!

Gee, thanks, Sallie, for posting this 4 weeks before my due date… I’m very much a redhead (completely natural).
Actually, that article was really interesting. I’ve had a few nurses tell me the same thing about redheads being more sensitive to pain. I just hope the epidural works when it comes time to have my baby…
OH MY WORDS!!!!! Do you have any idea how many shots it takes to get me numb at the dentist??? The dentist just looks at me and says “what are you doing with it all?” YEP, I have RED hair and freckles and light skin….as does my Dad and Grandpa. This explains so many things!!
Thank you for posting this. This is crazy!!
As a true redhead I totally believe this theory! I don’t have the horror stories that you have, Sallie, but experience has proved that pain is difficult to dull with me.
